Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 20, 2026

This policy explains what happens to information when you use Citatum.

Information Citatum uses

Citatum does not require an account and does not collect contact information.

When you connect an academic source, the name, public profile link, or identifier you enter is sent to that source or to Citatum’s profile lookup service. It is used to find the public academic profile you requested. The service may also process ordinary network information, such as an IP address, for security and abuse prevention.

Profile metrics, saved papers, favorites, and settings are stored on your device. If you enable iCloud for Citatum, Apple may sync that app data through your private iCloud account.

How the information is used

Search information is used to return public academic profile data and protect the lookup service from abuse. It is not sold or used for advertising or cross-app tracking.

Citatum may index saved profiles and publications in Spotlight so you can find them from your device. You can remove saved information from Citatum at any time.

Service providers

Citatum uses infrastructure and academic-data providers only as needed to locate and retrieve the public profiles you connect, including Google Scholar, ResearchGate, OpenAlex, Web of Science, and Scopus. A provider receives the request data needed for its lookup. Citatum does not ask for or receive your account passwords.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, Citatum can notify you after a saved metric or publication count increases. Notification permission can be changed in Settings on iPhone.
